Beckwith Mountain Ranch is one of the best kept
secrets in Colorado. It is the location that
Kathrine Lee Bates wrote America the Beautiful in
1893.
The Beckwith Ranch was established in 1874 by
brothers Elton and Edwin Beckwith. Sons of a wealthy
shipbuilder from Mount Desert Island, Maine, Elton
and Edwin brought cattle from Texas in 1869 for the
miners in Colorado with Charles Goodnight, one of
the legendary founders of the western cattle
industry. At its peak, Elton and Edwin’s cattle
operation was one of the largest in Colorado.
Beckwith Mountain Ranch is a gated development of
35+ acre parcels with private roads. Each parcel has
underground electric and telephone available and the
property owners are entitled to drill a well for
household and/or domestic use.
Wildlife such as deer, antelope, elk, and bobcats
roam freely in this tranquil setting. As you enter
Beckwith Mountain Ranch, you will feel a part of the
land’s rich history and community which only a few
have had an opportunity to enjoy.
The beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains offer five
peaks that surpass 14,000 feet, 52 high country
lakes for fishing, and miles of hiking and horseback
riding trails. The base of the Sangre de Cristo
Mountains is approximately nine miles from the
Beckwith Mountain Ranch properties.
The quaint town of Westcliffe, Colorado offers a
modern grocery store, health clubs, restaurants, a
variety of accommodations, medical clinic, bowling
alley, movie theater, art galleries, and many small
shops to browse.
